Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (B.Sc.)
The Bachelor's degree program "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" provides students with the necessary knowledge of mathematics, electrical engineering, physics and information technology to successfully perform their tasks as electrical engineers in their future workplace.
The Bachelor's degree program is modular. The modules of the first semesters provide mathematical-scientific and methodical principles with their corresponding (software) laboratories necessary for further studies.
With the beginning of the fourth semester, students can choose one of the following fields of specialization:
- Energy engineering
- Information and communications technology
- Micro- and Nanoelectronics
- Biomedical Engineering
The Curriculum provides information on the specific sequence of the individual subjects of the Bachelor's program.
Personal Requirements: Interests & inclinations, school grades, etc.
A good prerequisite is having fun with mathematic and scientific problems. Good grades in math and physics are a sign of particular aptitude for this program. You want to know how the technology that surrounds us in everyday life works? Are you curious and want to help solve problems? In order to successfully complete the program, students should bring curiosity, creativity, communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to think independently. Moreover, students should bring the willingness to deliver maximum performance and stamina. If you feel involved, it is unimportant whether you are male or female. The degree program is equally suitable for both sexes.
An internship before the start of the program is not required.
The correct assessment of your own personality: Self Assessment
RWTH Aachen University offers an Online-Selfassessment to help prospective students to choose the right program. The service is free of charge and anonymous. The results of the Online-Selfassessment have no impact on the admission procedure. After you have participated in the self-assessment, you will receive a certificate of participation online. You must present this certificate to enroll in the study program.
Language of the study program
Owing to the fact that the language of instruction is German, you are supposed to be proficient at a good level in written and spoken German. All university applicants whose native language is not German/who have not acquired their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution, have to provide evidence of TestDaF (level four in all examination parts), DSH (level two or three) or an equally matched language examination. Furthermore, a good command of English is useful.
Admission requirements & enrollment
Admission requirement is the general or pertinent subject-related higher education entrance qualification (mostly the "Abitur"), or an equivalent qualification. This also applies if you have acquired your university entrance qualification in Germany as a foreign student. Please click here to find more information on enrollment.
Here you find further information if you are an international applicant who does not have a German secondary education certificate.
The degree program starts every winter semester and lasts six semesters (3 years). The winter semester begins on October 1 of each year. Since the lectures start later, the latest Semester Dates are published by the rector.
Studies start with an Orientation Week, which is to help the students on their first days at our university.
