Student University Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering
What does a civil engineer actually do and what can the study of environmental engineering look like? These and other questions were put to 14 interested pupils from grade 10 onwards during the 5-day "Schüleruni" project week from 15.07. to 19.07.2019. Numerous lectures, visits and excursions provided insights into engineering studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.Copyright: Nancy Olm
In the lecture "Rekorde der Baukunst", organized by the Institut of Structural Concrete (IMB), the students were able to get a taste of lecture hall air for the first time. Also of great interest was the excursion to the Aachen Soers sewage treatment plant, organised by the Institute for Urban Water Management (ISA), where the participants were able to try out their skills as young researchers in the laboratory. The students were given an insight into everyday life at the university using the latest technology; in the course of reality capturing, it was possible to experiment with VR glasses at the programme item of the Geodetic Institute (GIA). Furthermore, the institutes of Urban and Transport Planning (ISB), Geotechnical Engineering (GIB), Structural Analysis and Dynamics (LBB), Building Materials Research (ibac), Gender and Diversity in Engineering (GDI), Hydraulic Engineering (IWW) as well as the Institute of Transport Science (VIA) took part. The eventful week ended with a question-and-answer session of the Faculty's student advisory service and mentoring, followed by a barbecue with possible future fellow students of the student council.
