JARA – Jülich Aachen Research Alliance
Focusing expertise - shaping the future: the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance, JARA, of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich is a model that is unique in Germany and that overcomes the mere juxtaposition of university and non university reseach and teaching.
The alliance creates a scientific environment that is internationally leading and attractive for the best researchers. At the same time, research opportunities are opened up and projects are realized that would not be possible for the partner individually. In addition to pure research, JARA's cooperation also extends to the areas of teaching, infrastructure, innovation and services. They create conditions for research and applications from research.
JARA currently comprises five research areas:
- Sustainable energy (JARA-ENERGY)
- Brain research (JARA-BRAIN)
- Information technologies of the future (JARA-FIT)
- Simulation sciences with supercomputers (JARA-HPC)
- Particle physics and antimatter (JARA-FAME)
The associated scientists research, among other things, more efficient energy generation and use, open up possibilities for the early detection and treatment of mental or neurological diseases, develop physical foundations for new storage devices or processors for computers and optimize research and development projects through computer simulation.
The two partners, RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich, thus link specific research fields in which their respective specific competences complement each other effectively.
Science policy strategies are defined and coordinated in this integrative partnership model. Research objectives are jointly defined, investments made and academic staff appointed and trained.
