Feb. 2007 The research project "UMIC" of the faculty is approved in the first round of the excellence initiative of the federal and state governments as unique cluster in communications engineering and information technology
2007 Start of the German Bachelor's degree programs "Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering" and "Business Administration and Engineering: Electrical Power Engineering"
2003/2004 Introduction of the German diploma program "Business Administration and Engineering: Electrical Power Engineering". Further increase of student numbers: WS 2003 about 2700 students in the faculty
2001/2002 Introduction of the German diploma program "Computer Engineering" in addition to Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and introduction of the international Master's degree program "Communications Engineering"
1999/2000 Renaming of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering to Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

1989 4500 students in the faculty. In the following 90s there is a strong decline of students in all scientific and engineering disciplines
1972 Additional chairs start activities on semiconductor electronics
1965 Extension of the research activities into data processing and computer engineering
1964 Extension of the research activities into the field of semiconductors
1961 Electrical Engineering becomes an independent faculty
1953 The discipline of Electrical Engineering has reached the 1000 students mark
1946 Electrical Engineering is integrated as an independent department into the "Faculty of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering"
1920 Development of Electrical Engineering into an independent engineering science under W. Rogowski; about 100 students
1882 Electrical Engineering started by A. Wüllner and O. Grotian as an engineering discipline at RWTH Aachen
