Technical Communication Camp
The association MINT-EC and RWTH Aachen organized a camp for technical communication for a nationwide school network.
How could new technologies be designed and communicated in an understandable way? These challenges were met by 18 young people from all over Germany from October 18th to 21st at RWTH Aachen University during a camp on technical communication. It was offered by the association MINT-EC, a national excellence network of schools with upper secondary level. The association has an outstanding profile in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT). Among other things, FEN was involved in the organization of the camp.
During the four-day camp, the students dealt with topics from the fields of electrical engineering, information technology, mechanical engineering and materials technology. For example, there was an information market on the energy transition, which explained the economic, political and technical dimensions of the energy transition. The knowledge acquired was applied in a strategy game developed by students for the construction of a wind park. In this context, the pupils acted as a fictional agency for technical communication. In order to gain acceptance among the population, they developed target group-specific communication measures. The subsequent tour of the Center for Wind Power Drives - CWD for short - of RWTH with its impressive test stands for wind power plants clearly illustrated the technical aspects of the energy transition.
MINT-EC offers its network schools high-quality events and programs for upper secondary school pupils, teachers and school management. The objective is the promotion of talented young MINT talents and the promotion of the qualitative school development of MINT-EC schools. The association was founded in 2000 by employers and works closely with regional education initiatives. The network, which currently comprises 247 certified schools with around 270,000 pupils and 21,000 teachers, has been under the patronage of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of States ("KMK") since 2009.
