Former graduand becomes Rector of Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC)

Luis Paulino Méndez Badilla, a former graduate of the Institute, was elected new Rector of Tecnológico de Costa Rica on 13 June. The "Costa Rica Institute of Technology", also known as "TEC", is the leading public university for engineering and natural sciences in Cartago, Costa Rica. Mr. Méndez will take over the office of the Rector from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2023.

On Thursday, 27 June, the official swearing in already took place within a festive ceremony.

Mr. Méndez holds a degree in electrical engineering from TEC and a diploma from RWTH Aachen University. He completed his diploma thesis on "Implementation of an LD-CELP speech codec on the fixed-point processor DSP16A" in 1990 at the Institute for Communication System Devices and Data Processing (today: Institute for Communication Systems) under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Vary.

Mr. Méndez is a passionate teacher and professor at the TEC for 35 years. As part of his professional career he was Director of the School of Electronic Engineering and Coordinator of the Academic Area of Engineering in Computers. In July 2011 he was appointed Vice Rector for Teaching.
