How sounds and noises interfere with learning - A WDR-report about RWTH's Acoustic Research
On September 20th, 2018, the local TV station WDR published a report about RWTH Aachen University's research field of Medical Acoustics in the program "Lokalzeit in Aachen". The report makes the work of Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Janina Fels and her team subject of discussion.
In the context of Noise Research, a current project aims at the investigation on the cause and impact of acoustic stimulation on primary school pupils. Compared to adults, these young test persons are especially sensitive to loud soundscapes. The Institute of Technical Acoustics' mobile 3D-Sound-Laboratory operates as resource for the creation of virtual situations with various auditory stimuli and hence, as base of data collection.
Further studies will take place in order to concretise the improvement of classroom acoustics.
"We hope that our studies will lead to a long-term improvement of room acoustics in classrooms." - Prof. Janina Fels
