Biomedical Engineering as new Bachelor's specialization
Due to the great demand for medical technicians, the Bachelor specialization "Biomedical Engineering" has now been established.
Biomedical Engineering is a field of specialization that generally deals with the solution of medical tasks with the help of technical methods and devices. From the perspective of electrical engineering, these include the areas of imaging systems, measurement technology for diagnostics, life-support equipment, surgical technology, medical robotics, wearables and telemedicine.
In the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, medical technology research deals with image processing, medical acoustics and speech signal processing, microsystems technology as well as measurement technology and automation technology in the field of medicine. In addition to fascinating technical solutions, this area of specialization also conveys physiological and anatomical basics and is therefore "interdisciplinary" in the best sense of the word.
Graduates in this field can easily find a job in the constantly growing medical technology industry as well as in hospitals, regulatory authorities, as patent agents and in neighboring industries. The medical technology industry is characterized by many small companies, and there are often company start-ups from universities.
The courses of the specialization "Biomedical Engineering" in the Bachelor program "Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering" will be offered starting with winter semester 2018/19. Students who enroll now therefore have the opportunity to choose this specialization at a later date.
