The Center for Biomedical Image Processing "ACTIVE" has now been opened at RWTH Aachen University.

The name of the research institution stands for Aachen CenTer for Biomedical Image Analysis, Visualization and Exploration.

In the future, methods for the automated, efficient analysis, classification and visualization of biomedical image data as well as for the processing of large amounts of data ("big data") will be developed here.

At the same time, the activities in the field of biomedical image processing and data analysis will be bundled and expanded in Aachen. Modern imaging techniques entail a direct need for dedicated, professional processing techniques, so that there is generally a strongly growing need for professional biomedical image processing and data analysis. Furthermore, the analysis of innovative image data is a challenging research environment for technical disciplines such as electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, so that this interface offers a high potential for innovative, interdisciplinary research.

ACTIVE is led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dorit Merhof, holder of the Chair of Image Processing.
