On the occasion of the opening of the electromobility laboratory (eLab) on the Melaten Campus, a round table discussion took place on the subject of "electromobility made in NRW".

Garrelt Duin, Minister of Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry, Medium-sized Businesses and Crafts of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Marcel Philipp, Lord Mayor of the City of Aachen, Prof. Ernst Schmachtenberg, rector of RWTH Aachen as well as the heads of the participating institutes were present; more than 140 guests from the Federal Government, the State, the region and representatives of the university and industry took part in the ceremony and the tour of the building with its benches and facilities.

The state of NRW and the Objective 2 program of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) supported the construction of this building. The investment volume, including the facilities, is around eight million euros. Research in the field of electromobility on the RWTH Aachen Campus is making an important contribution to this. From our faculty, the Institute of Electrical Machines and the Institute of Power Electronics and Electrical Drives are involved in the E-Lab.
